1.
Is this a “real” theater? “Absolutely. Although,
you will find that it is like no other theater you have ever seen. Our actors are here to learn and grow in theater
arts, and we do not “star” one over another.
We have all the sound, lights, make-up and other trappings of a “real”
theater, along with some special aspects that make our theater experience
unique.” 2.
How much does it cost? “$10. That is all. Our
registration fee is the only cost required.
There is a $10 costume fee, if you want to use our costumer. You can also purchase a t-shirt or hat in
support of the theater. Regardless of
the amount spent, all children are treated the same.” 3.
How do you cast the shows?
4.
What ages can participate in the
shows? “Normally, we allow children ages 5 to 16 to participate. However, we have had children 4 years old
and as old as 18. Additionally, we
have adults (parents) join the children on stage in almost every
production. There are also a few adult
supporters who get “in on the act” and help in the adult roles. All of our main roles are filled with
children.” 5.
What kind of shows do you perform? “The plays we produce are two-acts, written by our in-house
writer. These are original works that
mirror common themes and famous stories.
To date, we have performed “Princess and the Pea”, “Robin Hood”,
“Star-Crossed in Texas”, “Wonderland”, “A Pirate’s Tale”, “Rumpelstiltskin”,
and “Bugsy and Me” and "Fairy Tale Felon". We also have
one-acts that are performed on special occasions. All of our shows are family-friendly and
have strong moral or ethical themes.” 6.
How do I register my child? “We always advertise each show in the local papers, and you
can also check the website for information on our schedule. If you need more information, just call
the office.” 7.
What if my child is shy or not
talented in the theater? NOT ONE CHILD IS EVER LEFT OUT OF A SHOW! Talent and experience are NOT
necessary. Most of our cast members
are new to the theater, but they all shine on stage! We have seen many children come in shy and
uncertain, but they all do a wonderful job on stage. There is no pressure to be perfect, so the
children often surpass everyone’s expectations.” 8.
How do you handle having more children
than parts? “That almost never happens.
We incorporate a two-cast system that doubles all the roles, allowing
more children to participate in the challenging ones. The two teams are equal and alternate
performances.” 9.
Do you plan to do larger productions
in the future? “Absolutely. There are
plans to do larger musicals in the near future, but we are trying to build
the theater in stages, and our present support structure is not ready for a
major production. However, we
anticipate the 2007-2008 season will have our first, significant musical
production. Presently, many of our shows
incorporate dance and music, and we are actively expanding our production
capabilities for the future.” 10.
Do you have local references from past
participants? “Yes. There are dozens
of letters and evaluations available for someone to review. If you contact the office and request these
references, we will be happy to pass them along.” |
