The HILL COUNTRY CHILDREN’S THEATER (HCCT) is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to giving children a special exposure to the theater arts. We are not a talent agency or a professional theater. This is a community effort that focuses on participation, not stardom. Every child enrolled in our program participates, regardless of age, ability or previous experience. We believe the theater should be a fun place for kids to explore their talents, not a stressful push toward greatness. We started our theater in September of 2002, with a focus on children and a plan to reinvent how they participate in theater arts. Our approach allows the children to develop as individuals, setting a standard of their own with which to compete. HCCT utilizes a two-cast system, which essentially doubles all the principle roles offered in a particular show. This allows more children to have the chance to perform in the more challenging parts. Rehearsals are always set with family needs in mind. Most are set on Saturdays, and we are very careful to avoid holiday conflicts. When the schedule calls for weeknight practices, our focus is still on completing those practices at a respectful time. Additionally, we offer parents a chance to participate with their children. By joining one of our support committees or taking a role on stage, we encourage parents to become active in our shows. The theater is a TEAM activity and every child is important to that team concept. By making the program something you can experience with your child, the positive affect broadens to encompass your whole family. Children between the ages of five and sixteen are welcome to join our cast. During our five-year history, we have performed eleven, two-act shows. Over one hundred and eighty young people have participated in our shows, and several thousand guests have witnessed the awesome performances of these wonderful children. HILL COUNTRY CHILDREN’S THEATER is a place of excitement and adventure, equipping children with valuable skills and opportunities that will surely benefit them well into adulthood. The response has been tremendous and the community support continues to grow, but there is always a need for financial support and our shows welcome volunteer help. We anticipate our program will quickly assume a role as the leading activity for children ages five through sixteen, within this area. By providing a safe, positive place for children, we are improving our community and enriching the lives of tomorrow’s leaders.
