HCCT-SA Union

Captain Brett Meredithof the Salvation Army and Kent Smith
of the Hill Country Childrens Theater

The Hill Country Children’s Theater joins The Kerrville Salvation Army

As of July 1, 2009 the Hill Country Children’s Theater (HCCT) will become a wonderful program addition to The Salvation Army.  The HCCT was founded in 2002 with the primary purpose of exposing young people to theater and public performance in a supportive and educational environment. Now in their 8th season, the HCCT can proudly boast that over 250 children have participated in productions such as “Bobby Sox,” “A Pirates Tale,” “Wonderland, Alice Return,” “Bugsy and Me,” and several others.

With a dedicated Advisory Board and committed President, Kent Smith, the HCCT is ready for action.  “The Salvation Army’s willingness to add us to their program is quite a blessing. We are very excited about the union and anticipate many wonderful projects in the near future,” said Mr. Smith. Effective July 1st, the new Director, Kimberli Hood Easley will join the HCCT team as well.  Kimberli has a Masters degree in Theater and over 10+ years experience formerly with the Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center: Home of the Hal Holbrook Theater. Her directing credits are numerous including Adventures of Tom Sawyer, To Kill a Mockingbird, and the Crucible. Kimberli has directed Steel Magnolias twice, once for CenterStage Productions in Huntingdon, TN, as well as for the Kudzu Playhouse in Hernando, MS.

“This is an excellent cultural opportunity for the youth of our community, and we are so excited to have the HCCT become a part of our programming lineup at The Salvation Army.   I see a fantastic future for this program as we all work to ‘Do the Most Good’ with young people of the Hill Country,” expressed Captain Brett Meredith of The Salvation Army.

With great eagerness, two program camps are already scheduled in August. The first camp begins the week of August 3rd – 7th while the second camp will be August 10th – 14th from 9:00 am – 12:00pm.  The theater camps will be held at the Hanszen Blackbox Theater at Schreiner University with a cost of $75. So ‘break a leg’ and register your children today (some scholarships are available). Class size is 30 children. To become a part of this drama or inquire more information, please contact The Salvation Army at 830-257-3620.

Our New Director...

Kimberli Hood Easley formerly served as artistic director for The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center: Home of the Hal Holbrook Theater and the Dixie Players/Dixie Youth Theater, since their inception. Before the opening of the Dixie, Ms. Easley formed CenterStage Productions, in conjunction with the town of Huntingdon to begin acting classes and performances in preparation for the opening of The Dixie. Graduates from Center-Stage have already gone on to study theater and work in professional theatres across the country.

Easley’s theater career began in first grade as Little Red Riding Hood and continued throughout school and college. During graduate school, Ms. Easley began touring with repertory theater companies as an actor, writer, and director and continued to do so until moving to Huntingdon in 2001; her tours included national and international performances.
Easley has taught theater and acting at various colleges and fine arts academies in Dallas/Ft. Worth and in West Tennessee. In addition, she has directed and taught children’s theater for ten years and developed an award winning improvisation team.

Professional directing credits include: Babes in Toyland; A Christmas Play; Much Ado About Nothing; The Crucible; Catacombs; The Runner Stumbles; The Miss Firecracker Contest; To Kill a Mockingbird; The Best Christmas Pageant Ever; Godspell; and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Easley has also directed two productions of Steel Magnolias, one for CenterStage Productions in Huntingdon, as well as for the Kudzu Playhouse in
Hernando, MS. The Kudzu production won four regional theater awards including Best Comedy, Best Overall Production, Best Ensemble Cast, and Best Supporting Actress.
Ms. Easley thanks her husband, Jesse, hounds, Abilene, Chloe, Buckey, and the rest of her family for their patience and support. Kim and her husband Jesse reside in the old homestead house on Adolf Steiler ranch in Comfort.
